My collaborative ebow piece with Sudhu Twari has seen a lot of action this past summer. Last month Sudhu invited me to participate in a show that his musicology dept was a part of. The show was called SonicPLACE and was part of the Soundwave Biennial in San Francisco. It featured sound art that was somehow associate with the human body.
We exhibited the string ebow instruments that we have been working on for a few years now. Sudhu made some smart modifications and added some Arduino programming with a proximity sensor. This controlled the voltage to the electro magnets that drove the strings.
I think the next phase in the evolution of these instruments will include some electric pick-ups and some experimentation with effects.
