Steam Punk Tree House (With 5 Ton Crane)

The collaborative group 5 Ton Crane was officially named in 2009. Before that time, it existed in various, nameless forms and was responsible for several, large-scale, interactive, projects. The group was formed in 2007 around the construction of the Steam Punk Tree House led by Sean Orlando.

The Steampunk Tree House is representative of a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature: humans living in harmony with the planet and its natural elements. The House component itself is built of recycled wood, clockwork components and steel, styled after the Victorian age of architecture, H.G. Wells, and Jules Verne.

The Tree House may indeed remind people of a simpler, more innocent time. It may serve as a reminder of childhood, and an example of how humans might live in harmony with the unnatural nature of nature. However, the tree is also meant to inspire critical thought on the part of its dwellers, encouraging its inhabitants to reconsider the often-paradoxical relationship between humans and the environment of which we are a part of.

Mandated Series

The Mandated Series is a response to my thoughts on the natural and artificial, external influences our personalities encounter from moment to moment.

Steady Diet

Steady Diet is one in a set of pieces that addresses the complexity of the various systems that overlap, intertwine and surround us. It also references the external meaning that we assign to these systems. For example, the heart is a pump. It is the main component in a system that keeps our bodies supplied with the nutrients that it needs to operate. Nevertheless, we make connections between our hears and our emotions, especially love. Why?
